About Kenneth Hitchner
Kenneth Hitchner is a strategic communications professional who protects and promotes brands for mission-driven organizations. On behalf of CMA’s clients, he is responsible for overseeing the firm’s expanding communications platforms, including traditional, digital and emerging media.

Ken has led the public relations team to a record 561 media placements in 2015, which is a 165 percent increase from the previous year and puts one of CMA’s clients in the news every 15 hours.

As spokesman for NJ Transit, Ken built relationships with members of the media that turned sentiment toward the nation’s largest statewide provider of transportation. During his tenure as deputy press secretary for the Governor of New Jersey (2005-2006), he helped craft a story through communication tactics that allowed the Governor to leave office with a 71-percent, public-approval rating, a first in the Garden State.

As chief content officer for the Professional Service Group of Central New Jersey (PSGCNJ), Ken built strategic relationships that turned a defunct state program into a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that puts downsized professionals back into the workforce every 58 hours. In addition to media placements, a social media campaign created an opportunity for the nonprofit to meet President Barrack Obama’s Secretary of Labor in Washington, D.C. The discussion resulted in a pledge that President Obama asked 300 CEOs to sign that relaxed hiring practices in regards to the long-term unemployed. Rutgers University Alumni Association honored Ken’s efforts with a leadership award.

As senior editor in the trade and news media, Ken has lead teams that grew paid readership on various print and online publications for Gannett Co. Inc. and Thomson Reuters. His strategic story-telling also led to increases in other streams of revenue, including advertising and affiliated services. Ken has earned his bachelor’s degree in journalism from Temple University and his M.B.A. in marketing from Rutgers University. He also earned a certificate in social media marketing from Rutgers University.
